MUSIC ON THE NET
- Be sure to see the information finally herein on ALICE COLTRANE/SWAMINI TURIYASANGITANANDA's little-known devotional recordings...see the Alice Coltrane pages.
- OroNeese is the record label of Nicholas Wrigley and Jonathan Lomax in England, who have put out a marvelous album entitled SUNS that completely conjures up the work of Alice Coltrane and Rashied Ali.
- BLAXPLOITATION MUSIC, my guiltiest pleasure.
- Finally someone has issued a collection of Leon Thomas' solo works on CD. Passion Jazz/Soul Brother Records of England has issued a terrific 12-cut CD (and vinyl!) anthology entitled, aptly enough, LEON THOMAS ANTHOLOGY. Check it out at their website. Full details of course can also be found on the Leon Thomas pages in this site.
- Doug Watson's in-progress site KOZMIGROOV! An Overview of Psychedelic/Cosmic Jazz promises to help define this wonderful music for us appreciative listeners. Now including links to label and artist discographies.
- Wow. Other people like this kind of music. Check out the Kozmigroov Mailing List Archive. Information can be had there on subscribing to the Kozmigroov mailing list where people chat about exactly this kind of music and more.
- Scott Hreha's Free-Jazz Site One Final Note.
- I love this site: WILL THERE BE YODELING IN HEAVEN? examines yodelling from African pygmies to Swiss mountaineers to, who else, Leon Thomas.
- My friend Tetsuro Kubo's DeeDee Bridgewater site. DeeDee started out as one of the great kozmigroov vocalists in the early 1970s, and Tetsuro has done an awesome job of documenting her work. Tetsuro also maintains a site that lists many many other jazz artist discographies: Blues And Jazz Discography Link Page.
- Here's a really thorough Pharoah Sanders website I ran across. Lots of biographical details and all that good stuff.
- In my next life time I'll become an expert on Sun Ra as well. As for now, some one else has already done the work and here's a great Sun Ra website and discography.
- I'm a big fan of three Brazilian artists in jazz: Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, a percussionist who's played with simply everyone and a vocalist, respectively; and Hermeto Pascoal, who played with Miles Davis and incorporates Brazilian country music into his view of the avant garde. Follow the links for websites on each.
- Dustygroove one of my favorite net places to browse for music. Not the world's biggest selection, but everything's annotated, and they sell both new and used product, and specialize in funk and jazz.
- If you're looking for an imported CD and don't mind spending money, German Music Express has absolutely everything from Europe and Japan. Reliable service, though not speedy.
- An interesting general jazz website: The All About Jazz Web Zine. Hey! And my site was awarded a "Site Of The Week" (9/8/97) from these folks! Pretty cool!
- This web site was profiled in issue 172/June 1998 of THE WIRE, a UK magazine on all kinds of interesting music. The site was very positively reviewed (thanks, guys!) and hey, now I'm rich and famous. Well, famous anyway. THE WIRE Magazine: Adventures In Modern Music turns out to be a great magazine (no, they haven't paid me to say that!) and runs its own website, which is recommended.
- Marcel Safier's Jazz Page has discographies on several obscure and not-so-obscure musicians featured in my site.
- Impulse! Records website, including an interesting bulletin board.
RELIGION ON THE NET
- Orishalist website
(original home of my Orisha Music discography). Avoid the electronic newsletter and cyber discussion which paints a poor picture of the beauty of the religion, but by all means pursue the links for some material of interest. Remember that religion is best practiced not read about.
- Slightly updated version of my Orisha music discography.
