Hooker's playing is probably too free to be considered groovin', but DJ Olive's extracts really do sound like something raw and new (as opposed to, say, obviously biting a Headhunter's record.) The configuration on this album is easily Hooker's closest approach to the notions of Kozmigroov that I'm trying to wrap my head around. "Archetypal Space", with the Paul Schutze sample, is magnificent.  The underrated Olive is brilliant on turntables, esp. on "Flow." [DW]
