The Loud Minority [Mainstream, 1972]
|
Dee Dee Bridgewater shouts "We are a part of the loud minority!" and this album is off and it never lets up. I think this has to be one of the best Mainstream titles out there. The roster includes 2 drummers, 2 bass players, 2 piano players...and well you get the idea its a big band but the concept is open and exploratory. elvin jones, jan hammer, stan clark, and many more add their distinctive stylings. There is a hard break in the sprawling title cut but for me "beautiful people" with dee dee scatting effortlessly over the waves of electric piano, deep bass, and swirling sax. you gotta check this one out.
